Heybeliada Princes’ Islands

With an area of 2.34 square meters and a population of 4158 people, Heybeliada is the second largest of the Princes’ Islands. The highest point of the island is at Değirmentepe, which is 136 meters high. Heybeliada is the greenest island out of all inhabited Princes’ Islands.

Top attractions in Heybeliada:

> 11th-century Halki Seminary and Aya Triada Monastery

> Greek Orthodox Church of Aya Nikola from 1857

> Church of Panagia Kamariotissa from 1341, the last church built by the Byzantines

> Bet Yaakov Synagogue

> Heybeliada Mosque

> Many stylish wooden residences that line the streets.

> Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar Museum (Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar Müzesi) dedicated to Turkish novelist Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar

> Aya Yorgi Monastery from 1758

Things to do on the island:

Rent a bike in the center and explore the island.

Take a horse carriage tour. Please note: We have heard that some horses are neglected in winter; they don’t get much food and are not treated well. When taking a carriage, pay attention to the condition of the horse. Do not support carriage drivers who do not treat their horses well!

Go for a walk in the Değirmenburnu Nature Park (Tabiat Parkı).

Go for a swim and sunbathe on one of the many public beaches (halk plajı) or beach clubs.
