Divan Literature Museum (Divan Edebiyat Müzesi)

Divan Literature Museum in Istanbul

Istanbul’s oldest dervish monastery, the Galata Mevlevihanesi, which dates back to 1481 and was converted into a museum in 1975, gives you the opportunity to get to know this culture.

Ceremonial robes, traditional musical instruments, literature & teachings, religious objects and valuable calligraphy by Ottoman poets who once lived in these walls are important exhibits. The adjoining gardens provide peace and quiet, so that you can escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

A special highlight: Witness the Whirling Dervishes perform at 5 pm every Sunday. For about an hour you can indulge in the Sema ceremony, which is accompanied by mystical music.
