Which Topkapi Palace Ticket Should You Choose?
The main difference is Harem access and the type of guiding included. Do not assume that every ticket sold as “Topkapi Palace” covers the same areas.
Topkapi Palace Ticket + Audio Guide

Best for visitors who want to explore the main palace independently.
This option includes the main palace and an audio guide, but does not include the Harem. Choose it if your priority is the palace collections, courtyards and viewpoints.
Read your booking confirmation for the meeting point and entry procedure. An online booking does not necessarily mean you can walk directly to the turnstiles.
Topkapi Palace & Harem Tour

Best for visitors who also want to explore the imperial family’s private apartments.
This option includes the palace, Harem access and an introduction with a historian guide. The guide helps you enter and introduces the palace before you continue exploring independently, including the Harem.
This is not a fully guided visit through every room. Check the selected departure’s description for the guided portion and meeting instructions.

What About the Official Combined Ticket?
The official combined ticket includes Topkapi Palace, the Harem and Hagia Irene. The listed foreign-visitor price is 2,750 TL, checked on 14 September 2026.
Compare inclusions rather than prices alone. Check the official tariff.
What to See Inside Topkapi Palace
Use these highlights to plan your visit rather than trying to see every room.

1. The Palace Courtyards

The courtyards reveal how the palace separated public, administrative and private life.
Look for the Gate of Salutation, Council Chamber and Audience Chamber as you move through the complex.
👀 Our suggestion: Pause between the indoor collections instead of treating the courtyards simply as passageways.
2. The Imperial Treasury

Make time for the palace’s celebrated treasures, including the Topkapi Dagger and Spoonmaker’s Diamond, subject to display availability.
👀 Our suggestion: Prioritise this section if you have limited time, but allow flexibility if the galleries are busy.
3. The Sacred Relics

The Sacred Relics section is one of the palace’s most significant collections. Visit respectfully and follow the room-specific instructions on clothing, photography and behaviour.
4. The Harem

The Harem contains the imperial household’s private spaces. Its decorated rooms and courtyards offer a different perspective from the palace’s public and ceremonial areas.
👀 Our suggestion: Include it if you are particularly interested in architecture and palace life—and check your ticket before booking.
5. The Pavilions and Viewpoints

The later courtyards include the Baghdad and Revan pavilions and terraces with views across Istanbul’s waterways.
👀 Our suggestion: Leave time for this part of the visit rather than arriving just before closing.
6. Hagia Irene (On Your Way Out)

As you exit the palace grounds, just near the security check, you'll pass by Hagia Irene Church. This historic church, one of Istanbul's oldest, was Constantinople's first church built by Constantine.
Hagia Irene stands in the palace’s first courtyard. Check whether your ticket includes admission before adding it to your visit.
Is the Topkapi Palace Harem Worth Visiting?

We recommend including the Harem on a first visit if your time and budget allow. It adds the private side of palace life to the administrative spaces and collections of the main complex.
Choose the palace-only option if you prefer a shorter visit focused on the principal collections and courtyards.
An audio guide mentioning the Harem does not mean your admission ticket includes it. Always check the ticket’s listed inclusions.
How to Plan Your Visit
Start Early and Keep Your Schedule Flexible
For a first visit, we suggest arriving near opening and leaving the rest of the morning free. Avoid scheduling another timed attraction immediately afterwards.
Do not treat the ticket-office closing time as a sensible arrival time: you will want several hours to explore.
Understand What “Skip the Line” Means
A ticket-queue benefit is not a guarantee of immediate entry. Security checks and waiting inside the complex may still apply.
Check whether your booking requires you to meet a representative or join a scheduled departure before entering.
Prepare Your Audio Guide
If your ticket includes a mobile audio guide:
Dress and Pack for a Long Walk
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for both outdoor courtyards and indoor galleries. Follow any additional clothing requirements displayed at the Sacred Relics section.
For photography, follow the signs in each room and staff instructions rather than assuming one rule applies throughout the palace.
If you need step-free access, confirm the available route with the palace before booking. Historic surfaces and thresholds can make a visit more demanding.
How to Get to Topkapi Palace
By T1 Tram
Sultanahmet and Gülhane are useful T1 stops for reaching the palace area. Continue on foot and follow directions to the visitor entrance.
Do not get off at the tram stop named “Topkapı”: it serves a different area, not Topkapi Palace. You can check the stops on the official T1 tram route.
Plan the Final Walk
If you have booked a tour or hosted-entry ticket, navigate to the meeting point in your confirmation, which may differ from the palace entrance.
A Short History of Topkapi Palace

Built under Sultan Mehmed II in the fifteenth century, Topkapi developed over successive reigns into an imperial residence and centre of government.
The court later moved to Dolmabahçe, and Topkapi became a museum in 1924.
Unlike a single grand residence, it is a sequence of courtyards, chambers and pavilions—so exploring its layout is part of the experience.
What to Visit Nearby
Choose one additional major attraction after Topkapi, rather than rushing through several ticketed sights.

Hagia Sophia: Pair Ottoman palace history with Istanbul’s Byzantine heritage.

Basilica Cistern: Add an underground visit to contrast with the palace courtyards.

Gülhane Park: Consider a relaxed outdoor break after your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the ticket you buy. The official combined ticket includes the Harem, but the palace-only partner ticket featured on this page does not. If you want to visit the imperial apartments, choose an option that explicitly lists Harem access.
We recommend including it on your first visit, especially if you enjoy architecture and historic interiors. It adds the private apartments of the imperial household to your palace experience. If you have limited time, focus on the main palace and its collections.
