Just a short drive outside the busy city, you can find peaceful green forests — all still within the Istanbul province. These places are perfect for walking, hiking, biking, picnicking, or just enjoying quiet time in nature.

Here are some of the best forests in Istanbul you can explore:

🌿 On the European Side

1. Belgrad Forest (Belgrad Ormanı) – Sarıyer
This is the most famous forest in Istanbul. It’s very big — around 5,500 hectares — and great for jogging, walking, or picnicking. There are also old Ottoman aqueducts and lots of trees and birds.
👉 Also home to the Atatürk Arboretum and small nature parks.

2. Kemerburgaz Urban Forest – Eyüpsultan
A modern green space with long walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, and picnic spots. You can also see the Mağlova Aqueduct, built by the famous architect Mimar Sinan.

3. Göktürk Pond National Park – Eyüpsultan
This park has a peaceful lake surrounded by trees. It’s ideal for family picnics, bike rides, or relaxing walks.

4. Ayvat Bendi Nature Park – Belgrad Forest
A small forest area inside Belgrad Forest, named after a historic dam from 1765. It has walking paths and is great for nature lovers.

🌲 On the Asian Side

5. Aydos Forest – Kartal
This forest has a lake and an old castle (Aydos Castle) on top of a hill. You can go hiking, cycling, or have a picnic here.

6. Polonezköy Nature Park – Beykoz
A large forest area founded in 1994. It has Polish roots and is perfect for nature walks, cycling, and enjoying the green views.

7. Alemdag Forest – Çekmeköy
A quiet forest with many trees and flowers. It’s not too crowded and perfect for a relaxing nature walk.

8. Kaymakdonduran Forest – Beykoz
A hidden gem with colorful flowers in spring. It’s great for camping, hiking, and picnics in a peaceful setting.

🧭 Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Istanbul’s forests offer a perfect break from the city’s fast pace. They are easy to reach and full of natural beauty.
